[10:21] < MS-> Afternoon
[10:22] < MS-> Tutorial on Kamaelia starts in 2 hours at Pycon in the US. I'm not there, but hoping it goes well for them :-)
[11:10] < Chong-> afternoon, MS-
[11:11] < Chong-> cool. Does Gordon Brown do the tutorial for Kamaelia in the US? :-)
[11:20] < MS-> erm, no
[11:25] < Chong-> hehe.
[11:44] < aa_> hah

[13:57] < ezod> gentoo ebuild for kamaelia in my overlay: http://tinyurl.com/ezodovl
[14:08] < MS-> back
[14:09] < MS-> ezod: I've never used gentoo - I'm guessing that an overlay is the equivalent of a repository in other distros ?
[14:10] < MS-> ie assuming that means what I think it means, that's great :-)
[14:10] < ezod> yep, basically the same thing
[14:11] < MS-> Also, is there anything I can do to make this easier for gentoo users to pickup ?
[14:11] < MS-> Or is just a pointer to here the most sensible thing?
[14:11] < MS-> Many thanks btw - this is a really nice thing to come back to :)
[14:12] < ezod> you're quite welcome
[14:12] < ezod> i can submit the ebuild to the gentoo bugtracker and try to get a dev to adopt it as maintainer
[14:13] < ezod> that way it would be in the official tree
[14:13] < MS-> That would be really neat :)
[14:14] < ezod> i'll see what i can do
[14:15] < MS-> If you need anything from me, let me know.
[14:26] < salmon_> ezod: change link to multitask homepage from http://groups.csail.mit.edu/o2s/o2s-wiki/multitask to http://groups.csail.mit.edu/o2s/public-wiki/moin.cgi/multitask
[14:29] < MS-> OK, going afk again for a bit, back later.
[14:29] < MS-> cya

[19:37] < vmlemon_> Hi wyleu
[19:38] < wyleu> hello how are you?
[19:38] < vmlemon_> OK
[19:38] < vmlemon_> Classy, http://i.gizmodo.com/5183443/lastfm-silences-third+party-mobile-apps
[19:39] < wyleu> http://195.112.27.196:81/docs/ kind of getting there...
[19:40] < wyleu> It' the DRM row all over again with barricades on a street closer to the palace.
[19:42] < vmlemon_> They're not just short-changing folks outside of the UK, US and Germany, by the looks of it
[19:43] < wyleu> I wish they had a bit more faith in their products rather than this get rich quick conquer the universe mentality.

[19:44] < wyleu> At the end of the day if I can't listen to music I ain't going to buy it. They want to reverse that, Buy it then discover you don't like it.
[19:44] < vmlemon_1> So true
[19:45] < vmlemon_1> Banning all mobile clients that aren't "official" seems like a suicidal move
[19:45] < vmlemon_1> Not sure how they'd work out if a client is a mobile one though
[19:45] < vmlemon_1> Unless they check User-Agents, although they're easy to spoof
[19:45] < wyleu> I remember BT's solution when faced with a problem was to reinvent the market until it matched theri desires, then wonder why no one bought into it
[19:46] < wyleu> Just like Msoft blocking browsers that didn't ident themselves as IE as happened in the early days.
[19:46] < vmlemon_1> And now everything calls itself Mozilla, and claims to be Internet Explorer, or "like it"
[19:47] < vmlemon_1> Although that's slowly starting to change, as clients claim that they're "like Firefox" or "like Safari"
[19:47] < wyleu> I just don't back a radio station based on some carefully calculated market analysis, I just get bored,and I'll do that at any time.... End of.
[19:48] < vmlemon_1> I think I used their scrobbling and recommendation features more than the radio
[19:48] < vmlemon_1> Although the full-track but finite previews were always useful
[19:49] < wyleu> It's worse for the music biz cos they claim to be fellow admirers of the art, and whilst that was spportable when there was a physical product, it ain't true in the virtual world.
[19:50] < wyleu> I'm a bit of a guerilla if it ain't free I won't use it. I like music but I'll make my own as much as listen to other people and I'll give it to anyone who cares to ask and sell it to advertising agency ( in my dreams)
[19:52] < vmlemon_1> I've always found their full-track previews more convenient than P2P services, although ripping YouTube audio tracks from FLV files with MPlayer is always an option
[19:52] < vmlemon_1> (At least if you don't mind low-quality mono audio)
[19:53] < vmlemon_1> Although YouTube recently started to silence the audio tracks of certain videos, which rendered them useless for that
[19:53] < wyleu> Well there's the dear old Youtube PRS spat as well... There will be blood on the carpet soon.
[19:54] < vmlemon_1> I'm sure that the RIAA and co. are slyly coveting last.fm's track fingerprint and scrobble submission databases
[19:55] < wyleu> At the end of the day if it's credible to yourself you'll buy into it and if it ain' you wont. And a real musician wants to be heard.
[19:55] < vmlemon_1> So true
[19:56] < vmlemon_1> The PRS cartel scam comes to mind
[19:56] < wyleu> On a seperate issue I assume since your on the KAm site you use python?
[19:56] < vmlemon_1> (i.e. Pay up if you've got a radio playing in your store/office)
[19:56] < vmlemon_1> Hmm, I don't use it very often
[19:57] < wyleu> it's a silly one. reload( module) reloads a module no probs, but is theri a command line way of reloading after 'from module import *' ?
[19:58] < wyleu> It's a pain when your hack writing.
