[01:01] *** MS- has parted #kamaelia
[06:40] *** Lawouach_ has joined #kamaelia
[06:40] < Lawouach_> morning
[09:11] *** Uraeus has joined #kamaelia
[10:27] *** MS- has joined #kamaelia
[10:27] < MS-> greetings
[12:00] *** Davbo has joined #kamaelia
[12:22] < Davbo> openSUSE 11.1 tomorrow
[12:22] < Davbo> exciting times.
[12:38] *** vmlemon_ has joined #kamaelia
[12:40] < vmlemon_> Hi
[12:44] < Davbo> Hey vmlemon_
[12:45] *** vmlemon_ has only just got UMTS credit today, and has been offline for nearly 2 weeks :(
[12:45] < vmlemon_> Seem to have missed a lot of stuf
[12:45] < vmlemon_> *stuff
[12:45] < vmlemon_> even
[12:53] < Davbo> welcome back to the internets.
[12:53] < vmlemon_> Heh, thanms
[12:53] < vmlemon_> *thanks
[12:54] < vmlemon_> Not good, already typo-ing like mad
[12:57] < vmlemon_> Ouch, why does my SD card reader suddenly decide that it won't read the card, as soon as I need to use it? I know the card itself is OK, and the reader worked fine earler
[12:57] < vmlemon_> *earlier
[13:01] < vmlemon_> lsusb detects it, and dmesg doesn't print any errors
[13:02] < Davbo> is hald running vmlemon_?
[13:03] < vmlemon_> Yeah, since Bluetooth is working fine
[13:04] < vmlemon_> It appears that no device nodes other than /dev/sdc appear in /dev :|
[13:04] < Davbo> I'm all out of ideas :D
[13:04] < vmlemon_> (and it reckons that "no media is inserted" on that)
[13:06] < Davbo> I thought I had a problem with hal the other day
[13:06] < Davbo> turns out you can't mount audio cd's anyway.
[13:06] < Davbo> it would be nice to have something pop up saying i'd put a cd in like it normally does though :(
[13:07] *** Davbo doesn't know what he expected from a mounted audio cd..
[13:09] *** vmlemon_ has joined #kamaelia
[13:13] < MS-> Davbo: I installed it at the weekend
[13:13] < MS-> (re open suse 11.1)
[13:13] < MS-> (on a netbook this is)
[13:14] < MS-> "turns out you can't mount audio cd's anyway"
[13:14] < MS-> You can use KDE to access the contents of cds as files
[13:15] < MS-> There may be a kioslave fuse based file system you can use for accessing them from the command line
[13:17] *** vmlemon_ has joined #kamaelia
[13:18] < vmlemon_> Grr, just got disconnected
[13:18] < vmlemon_> Looks like it read one card I tested
[13:19] < vmlemon_> But it doesn't seem to work with the card I need (which coincidentally happens to work OK in my phone) :|
[13:19] < MS-> Have you tried blowing in the hole?
[13:20] < vmlemon_> Tried it twice, so far
[13:20] < vmlemon_> I also contemplated taking the reader to bits, although it would be tricky to do, and would probably cause even more problems
[13:22] *** vmlemon_ is having a WTF Moment
[13:25] < vmlemon_> No idea if there's a special name for this sort of problem, for what it's worth...
[13:27] < vmlemon_> Seems weird that the reader will work with a spare 16MB card I have just fine, and my phone will work with the 2GB card without issues, but the USB reader seemingly won't work with the 2GB card anymore
[13:29] < vmlemon_> Naturally, this sort of thing had to wait until I actually needed to access the only copy of a source tree I have, in order to check it into SVN
[13:29] < Davbo> I've been following "Factory" MS- so i think I've pretty much got KDE11.1 probably a bit beyond that too
[13:29] < vmlemon_> (I haven't had connectivity in the meantime)
[13:30] < Davbo> well bits a pieces from Factory
[13:30] < Davbo> 11.1 is looking like a great distro though IMO :)
[13:30] < MS-> KDE11.1 ? Wow. Time warp?
[13:31] < MS-> *ahem*
[13:31] < vmlemon_> Heh, I misread it as KDE 11.1 too
[13:31] < vmlemon_> Stupid monospace fonts
[13:31] < Davbo> hehe sorry, suse 11.1 :)
[13:31] < MS-> Indeed.
[13:32] < vmlemon_> (Might have been l1.1)
[13:32] < MS-> TBH, I've not been amazed or stunned either way yet. But then I do tend to upgrade incrementally.
[13:32] < MS-> It was a really pain in the butt to install on the netbook though
[13:33] *** vmlemon_ had a brief play with a Windows XP EEE earlier, and wasn't too impressed
[13:33] < Davbo> I can imagine, i tend to go for distros which have been shaped for them. Arch is on my eee right now though
[13:35] < vmlemon_> The display was far too small for my liking, and the trackpad was incredibly fiddly to use
[13:36] < vmlemon_> Doesn't help that I've got big hands, if that has anything to do with the latter...
[13:36] < Davbo> that might have been one of the new ones too, my EEE looks like it's fisherprice
[13:38] < MS-> It's an acer aspire one, and so actually looks OK.
[13:39] < Davbo> Yeah, that one looks cool
[14:05] *** vmlemon_ has joined #kamaelia
[15:42] < Davbo> vmlemon_: still using RTM? if so, do you use Firefox / Ubiquity, it's totally awesome
[15:42] < vmlemon_> Hah, http://www.rulesemporium.com/creed.html
[15:42] < vmlemon_> I haven't used it for a while, to be honest
[15:43] *** vmlemon_ finally managed to get his stuff imported into SVN after moving it from the 2GB card to his phone's Flash memory, and then moving it onto the other card (which was usable in the reader)
[15:44] < vmlemon_> I'm not sure that errors like this, are good, though:
[15:44] < vmlemon_> Adding Microkernel/user/contrib/elf-loader/platform/srm/dispatch.S
[15:44] < vmlemon_> svn: Commit failed (details follow):
[15:44] < vmlemon_> svn: File '/svn/trunk/Microkernel/user/contrib/elf-loader/platform/srm/dispatch.S' already exists
[15:44] < vmlemon_> http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.subversion.user/72011
[15:44] < vmlemon_> Damn
[15:44] < vmlemon_> shouldn't have pasted the link too
[16:09] < vmlemon_> Davbo: What's Ubiquity?
[16:09] < Davbo> it's a cool little addon to Firefox
[16:09] < vmlemon_> Aah
[16:10] < Davbo> press a hotkey and it pops up and you type a command
[16:10] < Davbo> so now I just tap alt+space and type "rtm take the milk out on friday" and it adds to rtm
[16:10] < vmlemon_> Cool
[16:11] < Lawouach> evening boys
[16:11] < Davbo> things like twitter on there, as you'd expect heh
[16:11] < vmlemon_> Hi Lawouach
[16:11] < Davbo> it's from Mozilla labs too, so i'd expect firefox to be getting some of that functionality
[16:13] *** vmlemon_ wished GNU make didn't suck so much
[16:13] < Davbo> Hey Lawouach, is twitter now a channel for us to get support from WebFaction? hehe :)
[16:13] < Davbo> @WebFaction restart my server!!
[16:14] < Lawouach> :p
[16:14] *** Davbo is still playing with a few ideas for Django things
[16:15] *** vmlemon_ wonders if anyone's still tinkering with their Kamaelia GSoC code from time to time, even if they never bother to check their changes into the Kamaelia repository...
[16:15] < vmlemon_> (I doubt it, though)
[16:17] < Davbo> I hope to soon
[16:19] < Davbo> last bit of work is deadlined tomorrow and had some excellent news today about some things happening with home life
[16:19] < Davbo> parties thursday and friday though :)
[16:20] < vmlemon_> Yay, "make build-kernel" is still functional after checking everything out of SVN, which surprised me, after a false-start where it wouldn't compile until I did a "make spawn-janitor" twice
[16:22] < vmlemon_> Heh, they ended up closing college early today, thanks to some repair work on a water pipe outside one of the buildings (even though it didn't actually affect anyone, one of the tutors decided that it was a major issue, for reasons unknown)

[19:07] < vmlemon_> Hmm, anyone know if I can get a Fedora 10 CD or DVD for less than £4.00 (includes delivery)?
[19:07] Reply: Hm?
[19:17] *** vmlemon_ has joined #kamaelia
[20:28] < Davbo> vmlemon_: http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk/products/fedora/
[20:29] < vmlemon_> Thanks
[20:34] < vmlemon_> Meh, I would have gone there for the £1.96 KDE Live Install CD, if I hadn't already ordered the other one
[20:38] < Davbo> I only know of it from PyCon, it's John Pinner's company IIRC
[22:39] < vmlemon_> Night
[23:55] *** Davbo is finding himself agreeing almost entirely with MS's post to the list
